Professor of Radiology

Dr. Kuppusamy's research expertise includes detection and imaging of oxygen free radicals; myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury; stem-cell therapy for cardiac repair; ROS pathophysiology in vascular remodeling; tumor physiology, oxygenation, and drug-resistance; small-molecule therapeutics for heart disease and cancer; technology development for noninvasive measurement of tissue oxygen levels (oximetry).
He has published over 350 peer-reviewed scientific papers, reviews, and book chapters. As of 06/2015, he has 15,808 citations of my research publications including 6,720 in the last 5 years. The h-index of his publications is 62.

Dr. Kuppusamy has received the Silver Medal for Biology and Medicine from the International EPR Society in 2006; honorary title of "Doctor Honoris Causa" from the University of Pecs, in Pecs, Hungary in 2008; recipient of the 2014 Piette Award by the EPR Society; and 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Chennai.
Dr. Kuppusamy's laboratory has developed oxygen-sensing magnetic chips for tissue oximetry. The patented technology is capable of noninvasive and repeated measurement of oxygen concentration (pO2). Development of a clinical version of this technology is in progress.
